Tras el inicio de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Zweig, junto a su segunda mujer, su joven secretaria Charlotte Altmann, se trasladó a ParÃs para, desde allÃ, viajar a Inglaterra donde obtuvo la ciudadanÃa. En 1940 emigró a los Estados Unidos, pero fijó su residencia finalmente en Brasil. En 1941 escribió Novela de ajedrez, La tierra del futuro y El mundo de ayer, su autobiografÃa, que tuvo que ser publicada póstumamente ya que el 22 de febrero de 1942, en Petrópolis, Stefan Zweig y Charlotte Altmann se suicidaron.

Estanislao M. Orozco (Málaga, 1977) es Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos por la UGR y posee un Máster en Gestión del Patrimonio Literario y LingüÃstico Español. Actualmente prepara el doctorado en Literatura en la UMA. Es colaborador de la revista Manual de Uso Cultural que se edita en Málaga y de la revista Rocinante, de Quito (Ecuador). Ha publicado relatos en las revistas digitales Cinosargo, Pliego Suelto y Palabras Diversas.
